Biography

   Amy Loewan is of Chinese origin, was born in Hong Kong. She immigrated to Canada and has been based in Edmonton, Alberta since 1978. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree in PainGng from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.

   Amy is celebrated for her dedicaGon to creaGng artwork to promote peace and understanding. She has an extensive exhibiGon history of over 100 exhibiGons. Her work has been shown across Canada from Montreal to Yukon to B.C. as well as beyond boarders to New York, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Melbourne.

   Amy has received numerous awards and honours. She was inducted into the City of Edmonton Salute to Excellence Arts & Culture Hall of Fame in 2012 and the recipient of a NaGonal Award for Excellence in the Arts CommemoraGng the 50th Anniversary of the Universal DeclaraGon of Human Rights in 1998. Her large rice paper installaGon A Peace Project has been designated as a Cultural Property of Canada in 2010. Amy’s projects have received funding support from federal, provincial and municipal governments: the Canada Council for the Arts, Department of Foreign Affairs and InternaGonal Trade, Alberta FoundaGon for the Arts and the Edmonton Arts Council.

   Amy Loewan is a passionate art educator. She works with community groups and teaches studio courses in visual arts at the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension.
